Under
the structured, demanding and professional view of the Costarican
textile artist Paulina Ortiz, new awesome concepts and ideas
are presented while at the same time we assume them as ours
due to their pertinence to our culture and history. The
art of textile as well as the Neo-tapestries, as Paulina
call them, are thus, in our time, the true expression of
a contemporary and globalize vision.

Creativity is life transmitting. Apart
from this inequivocal vital power, Paulina’s creations
possess an internal force that transforms her work in “quasi
chamanistic” rites, leading us into our most profound,
archetypical and ancestral ego.

Because Paulina has been able to make
a round trip into the primordial interior, within the ontologic
game art becomes when it reproduces socioeconomic tendencies,
we can now make contact with her ars povera, plenty of outstanding
authentic multiple significations, a microcosmos that promotes
the initiating rite to blend in with nature now and through
the centuries, simultaneously.

The important thing of this
significant artistic act of Paulina Ortiz is that, by remaking
and giving impulse to the rebirth of all the symbols related
to the weave of life, the ritual becomes source of inspiration.
In this way, the actualization and the re elaboration of
that past, from the prospective of today, is easily inserted
in to the vanguard techniques and inside the new alternatives
of the visual arts.
Amalia Chaverri -2001
Acting Viceminister of Culture- Costa Rica
In this exposition it is
possible to confirm that her pieces convey a subtle message
that makes the spectator aware of his/her environment and
which is expressed by means of a symbolic language born
from creativity, the investigation of renewed traditional
techniques that are conjugated into her personal style of
minimalist sensitivity and indisputable feminine seal.
Elizabeth Barquero 2001
Acting Director of the Costarican Art Museum
Being in contact with the
work of Paulina Ortiz is an initiation ritual, it is the
entrance
way to the rupture of norms and conventionalities in artist
expression, not only textual but also contextually.
